Finding Your Life Purpose

I figured out what i was put on this planet to do. It took me a long time and I think I'm still sharpening it but I have worked out why I am here. Yesterday, I articulated this on a group coaching programme I've been participating in called Reignite Your Life. It's run by Jack Canfield and Patty Aubrey. If you didn't already know, Jack Canfield is the bestselling author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and The Success Principles. Because one of my core principles is lifelong development, each year I commit to doing a programme to develop one aspect of myself or to learn a new skill. With several COVID lockdowns in New Zealand in the last two years I've had ample time and bandwidth to do this!

This year I chose Jack Canfield's Reignite Your Life. It meant being up at 5am every Thursday morning to get on a Zoom call together with over a hundred people from around the world looking to reignite their lives. Its been well worth both the time and the money. This month we've been examining our life purpose. Why is this important? Well, without a purpose in life, its easy to get sidetracked on your life trail. You start to wander and drift through the months and years of your life not accomplishing a lot.

But when you begin to articulate a purpose, a reason for being, a 'why', everything begins to fall into place.

To be 'on purpose' results in you doing what you love, doing what you're good at and accomplishing what's important to you.

When you begin to act in alignment with your 'why' the world benefits as well and your actions start to serve others.

As Jack says, "Without purpose as the compass to guide you, your goals and action plans may not ultimately fulfil you. You don't want to get to the top of the ladder only to find you had it leaning against the wrong wall."

I'd figured out my life purpose some time ago but I'd never quite articulated it clearly. I did this though, yesterday. Here is is:

"My life purpose is using my creativity and curiosity and the skills I have developed over the last 30 years to create unique products, services and ideas in order to guide and coach people into living their true trail in life and as a result of that having them make the world better through their great endeavours."

In other words, I use my unique personal qualities to empower others to create a better world.

I had always felt I was doing this when I was accrediting people in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. I truly believe that in helping people understand their personality and that of the people close to them, I was helping them to create a shared understanding of who they were and how they could 'be' in the world.

I continue to do this with the tools I have become skilled in such as Positive Intelligence, Emotional Intelligence, my Pocket Personality Cards and my latest creation, 'Your Inner Wolves'.

If you're still reading this, I'm guessing that you are someone who has either defined your purpose or would have a strong interest in doing so. Believe me, once you do this, you begin to see things differently. You may start to do things differently and you will start to see people, resources and opportunities gravitate to you.

If you're ready to begin defining your 'Why', simply download this exercise to guide you.

Once you've written out your purpose, share it with three people you know and trust who will give you positive, constructive feedback. I'd be happy for you to share it with me too!

Do it and start to see your life change!
